2017 Sacramento Promenade of Mermaids
Please join us for the 7th Annual Promenade of Mermaids!
The Promenade will begin and end in Riverfront Park at 1000 Front Street in Old Town Sacramento (just north of the Old School House) on SATURDAY, May 20th, 2017. We begin assembling by noon and commence the Promenade at 1pm.
You are not required to register to promenade with us. In fact we have done away with pre-registration altogether. Those that wish to be considered for costume prizes need only show up by noon to get an entrant number. This year all child & Adult entrants are free. Look for our donation chest on the registration table which allows for better prizes and helps to pay for all the fantastic freebies we are adding for the children this year.
Pre-Promenade activities in the park begin at noon and culminate at 4pm. Attractions include: The Dive Bar Mermaids & Mermen photo booth, Pixie Tribe face painting & GIANT bubbles, Merman Alfonso’s handmade mermaid treasures in his Merman’s Grotto, Pirates of Sacramento’s monkey cannon arcade. Sarah Armstrong-Garner author of “Sinking” (The first book of a Mermaid adventure trilogy) will be on hand for book signing. Artist Jon Lowe’s Mermaid paintings, and much more. There will be Mermaids, Mermen & Pirates aplenty as well as sea creatures of every persuasion.
Prizes will be awarded for BEST COSTUME for both adult and child entrants as well as some miscellaneous categories, to be announced. Judging will be administered by this years King and Queen, who will be chosen at random before the march begins.

Come one, come all! Mermaids, mermen, pirates and all sea creatures. All are welcome to Promenade with us along the charming boardwalks of Old Town Sacramento! (We are steampunk friendly and encourage all things nautical or whimsical.)
We are making this a Sacramento Mermaid Weekend again this year by linking fun nautical adventures with our Mermaid friends. We start on Thursday May 18th with photo sessions in the Dive Bar tank & an American River Clean-up through the 21st screening of “Splash” at the Crest including a lecture by Robert Short, who created Darryl Hannah’s tail for the film. Dive Bar Mermaids will again provide a Children’s Mermaid Swim at the Hyatt on L street for a number of lucky Mer-tadpoles on Friday followed by an Adult Mermaid Cocktail Party & swim at 4. There are only 25 spots available for the children’s swim on Friday 5/19 & signup has begun. View details and updates for these activities at: https://www.facebook.com/MermaidWeekendInSacramento/?fref=ts
The 2017 Promenade Route should remain the same, starting and ending our stroll at the south end of Riverfront Park just north of the schoolhouse at 1000 Front Street. We may be detoured but not deterred and we are on rain, sleet or the heat of Hades.
(Please note that all participants in this event must assume responsibility for their own well being and that of their charges and thereby concur with the “release of liability” a copy of which is available via the press tab at the top of this page.)
